AM Best Reaffirms Preferra’s Excellent Financial Strength Rating

Frederick, MD – May 2026 – Preferra Insurance Company RRG proudly announces that AM Best has reaffirmed the company’s Financial Strength Rating of A- (Excellent) and Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of “a-” (Excellent), both with a stable outlook. The renewed ratings reflect Preferra’s continued financial strength, disciplined operations, and long-term commitment to protecting social workers, mental health professionals, behavioral health providers, and human services practitioners nationwide.

Recognized globally as the leading authority on insurance company financial ratings, AM Best evaluates insurers based on their balance sheet strength, operating performance, business profile, and enterprise risk management practices. The reaffirmation underscores Preferra’s sustained profitability, strong underwriting results, and consistent ability to meet the needs of its policyholders in an evolving marketplace.

Importantly, the rating also reflects the strategic actions Preferra has taken to strengthen and protect the organization’s long-term independence and stability. In 2024, Preferra formally separated from NASW Assurance Services and NASW Insurance Company and is no longer affiliated with or associated with those companies. This transition allowed Preferra to further strengthen its operational focus, reinforce governance and risk management practices, and continue advancing its mission as an independent, policyholder-focused insurance company.

“Our reaffirmed Excellent rating is a reflection of the deliberate decisions we have made to position Preferra for long-term strength and sustainability,” said Richard L. Jones, PhD, President, Preferra Insurance Company RRG. “Over the past several years, Preferra has remained steadfast in prioritizing financial responsibility, operational integrity, and the best interests of our policyholders.”

Preferra’s financial performance continues to outperform industry benchmarks in the commercial casualty insurance sector over both five- and ten-year periods. The company also maintains a comprehensive enterprise risk management framework overseen by executive leadership and its board of directors, along with strong reinsurance relationships with globally respected partners, including Swiss Re and Lloyd’s.

“This reaffirmation from AM Best validates the strength of Preferra’s foundation and the direction of our organization,” said Tony Benedetto, Chief Executive Officer of Preferra Insurance Company RRG. “Preferra has continued to grow as an independent insurance company built on accountability, service, and financial discipline. We remain fully focused on supporting and protecting the professionals who rely on us every day, while continuing to build a company designed for long-term success.”
