Important Updates for Policyholders

Thank you for trusting Preferra Insurance Company Risk Retention Group (Preferra) for your liability insurance needs. We want to inform you of some recent changes at Preferra.

Preferra has decided to part ways with NASW Assurance Services Inc, (Assurance Services), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). Assurance Services previously provided some administrative support, including office support and marketing services. These duties are now handled by Preferra staff and our administrator Pearl Companies. Please be assured that everything remains the same with your insurance coverage including, the same benefits, price, customer service and access to our risk management helpline.

For over a decade, Preferra was exclusively endorsed by NASW and its affiliate, Assurance Services. Recently, however, changes in Assurance Services’ leadership led us to conclude that their direction no longer aligns with our values or best serves our policyholders’ interests. Specifically, in December 2023, the independent Board members of Assurance Services were removed without notice or explanation, leading the remaining Board members of Assurance Services to resign immediately. These Board members were experienced insurance professionals, social workers and NASW Social Work Pioneers.
