Dr. David Campbell, Ph.D., currently serves on the Preferra Insurance Company RRG Board of Directors. He is an active board member, serving as an officer and on RRG board committees, bringing his unique skills and experience to benefit the RRG policyholders and the company.
Having devoted his career to research and practice in the nonprofit sector, his research interests address a range of critical nonprofit management issues, including accountability and performance measurement, the role of the internet and social media, organizational emergence, and adaptation (specifically in disaster response); and global philanthropy. He is the co-editor of the forthcoming book Philanthropy in the Muslim World.
He is a Professor in the Department of Public Administration, College of Community and Public Affairs at Binghamton University in New York, where he has served on the faculty since 2005. He previously served as Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Executive MPA Program at Columbia University in New York (1999-2005) and Practitioner Faculty at the Learning Institute for Non-Profit Organizations, University of Wisconsin School of Human Ecology in Madison, WI (1998 – 2001).
He has also held senior management positions in major nonprofit organizations and agencies in New York City and Cleveland, most recently as vice president for programs at the Community Service Society of New York.
Dr. Campbell received his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, his Master of Arts degree in Religion from Yale University Divinity School, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Bates College. He received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and his research profile is available on Google Scholar.
Campbell is an editorial board member for the Muslim Philanthropy and Civil Society journal. He regularly publishes articles about his research with The Conversation US. In recent years, as Visiting Professor (2014-2015), he collaborated with scholars at Koç University in Turkey to research philanthropy and giving in that country.
Dr. Campbell founded the Philanthropy Incubator at Binghamton University and has received funding for it from the Learning by Giving Foundation and Campus Compact Philanthropy. The program educates and encourages philanthropy among undergraduate and graduate students, including awarding funds to local nonprofit organizations, and has distributed more than $200,000 to local organizations over the past seven years.
Dr. Campbell is also a member of the Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation board and the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA).
